| NORTH CAROLINA: ASHEVILLE & PINEHURST

The Country Club of Whispering Pines
This semi-private, privately-owned Country Club boasts two championship golf courses rated among the best in the Carolinas. The layouts, known as The East and The West Courses, were designed by the world-famous Ellis Maples, who called Whispering Pines his home. Both courses have Bermuda fairways and Pencross bent grass greens.
The East Course was the host site in the year 2000 for the Women's Eastern Golf Association championship. The champion, Beth Bauer, was a member of the Duke University Golf Team, and represented the USA in the Curtis Cup competition before joining the LPGA this past summer.
Playing across large greens and rolling fairways lined with pine trees and strategically placed bunkers, The East Course is both a challenge for the low handicapper and a pleasure to play for the average golfer. There are five tee locations so that every level of player can hope for that elusive par.
The East Course is par 72 and The West Course is par 71. The East plays about 524 yards longer at 7094 yards versus the West at 6570 yards.
Shorter than its sister course, The West Course is made for the more precise golfer and is a striking contrast to The East. Smaller greens, with ponds and streams in play on 12 holes, and complemented by a picturesque setting, The West Course is a welcome diversion for members and guests alike.
The impressive clubhouse features a fully stocked Golf Shop and full locker room facilities for men and women. A restaurant, bar, and large banquet area means that the clubhouse is always playing host to some type of social function. A driving range, a practice pitching green complete with sand bunkers, and two putting greens are available to fine tune your game.
The Country Club of Whispering Pines owns and operates 32 villas and 9 suites for guests wanting to stay and play on our golf courses.
The Villas are just a wedge shot from the clubhouse and the first tees. A stay at the Villas offers a welcome alternative to the often busy and crowded resorts found elsewhere.
All rooms are spacious and comfortable and each has its own deck...offering views of either Thagards Lake, the pool, the tennis courts, or the golf course.

Hyland Hills Country Club
Hyland Hills' exceptional location crowns the Pinehurst Area. Located on one of the highest elevations in the region, the tall pines, spark- ling blue water and spacious vistas form a perfect backdrop for 18 of the finest holes ever designed by golf course architect Tom Jackson. The pleasant village of Southern Pines has its own attractions lying among longleaf and loblolly pines in what is known as "sand country." A resort since the 1880s, it became a
golfing mecca in 1920. It's rare for a building here to be more than two
stories tall. Locals readily admit that the main reason to come here is to
follow that little white ball, but they are quick to point out that the town has
some interesting sights as well.
Quaint and historic sites abound alongside some of the finest antique and
collectible shopping in the state. For those who prefer a faster pace, the
engines roar at North Carolina Motor Speedway in Rockingham when
NASCAR Winston Cup auto racing comes to town.
The Inn at Hyland Hills is tucked away in the tall long leaf pines the
Sandhills area is so famous for. Join us here and get away from the standard
hustle and bustle of the crowd. As soon as you arrive at The Inn at Hyland
Hills, you realize this is not your normal hotel. Are you tired of black top
jungles, the 500 rooms and asphalt as far as you can see that are associated
with most chain hotels? Your stay at The Inn at Hyland Hills will be a
refreshing change. The rooms are spacious with open floor plans. The 60
rooms in six separate buildings are spread amongst scenic trees & shrubbery.
You will find areas to walk, jog or ride a bike. After a hot day relax at our
spacious pool that is actually on the golf course grounds. Finish off the day
with a dinner at the restaurant on premise or a quick snack at the snack bar.
For the golf lover, you will be staying adjacent to a four-star golf course as
rated by Golf Digest. There is access to the putting greens and your stay is
adjacent to the driving range
